First heard of Audible.com on sponsored internet program (I don't remember it was first on YouTube or on Podcast). Since the first book is free, I went for it, signed up an account, submit my bank card info, got my first book on audible, "The education of a value investor", which doesn't interest me anymore, but at that time I was very into security market and investment, that was the only book I found might be useful and interesting.
First listening experience was nothing special, I play the audio book while gaming, didn't really got into the book's content, and the interface of audible listening software was awful, ugly and primitive looking, hard to use. There wasn't an app for windows 8 at that time? Yes, if you want to listen to their audio book you have to download their software first, now we got apps and it's elegant and easy to use. Anyway, by that time it didn't leave me much good impression, I thought that's it, I don't want to use it any more, so I just left the whole behind my head.
One and half month later I found out that audible charged about 15 Euro from my account, turned out if you didn't cancel the first month's subscription, it will automatically renew and take money from your bank. Well, damage was done, so I chose another two books and then shut down the subscription. I chose "Becoming Steve Jobs" and "Seriously, I'm kidding". The former was long and hard to read, I tried many times and finally gave up, just left it there, thought to myself "well, it's always there, not going anywhere else, someday I'll listen to it", the latter was lighted hearted, more of an entertaining book, finished very quickly and didn't learn much from it. So far my experience with Audible announced another pause.
Six months later I got a job and suddenly buying membership at Audible.com just makes sense to me again, I paid 200 Euro get 24 credits, which means 24 books to choose. I started listening a lot, on my way to work, on my way home, on my way to university. So I often remember some certain places and time point when I hear some certain chapter of a book.
So far the most enjoyable books I listened are "Elon Musk" and "The Martian", the former totally inspired me in terms of awareness of green energy and human future, also boosted my entrepreneurship spirit. I wish everybody reads the biography of Elon Musk, be aware of what we can do for human being as a whole. Recently two of my friends had birthday and to both I sent them a digital copy of "Elon Musk". Well, spread the good things.
Also listened biographies of Richard Branson, Jeff Bezos, and finished "Becoming Steve Jobs", yet the most impressive one remains "Elon Musk".
